Check It Out: Information on Borrowing

Whether you've just arrived at STLCOP or are new to using the Library, this guide covers all the basics. Learn about your library account, borrowing information, fines & fees, the STLCOP collection, and how you can suggest items for purchase.

Service Desk Hours

  • Monday - Thursday: 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Friday: 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Sunday: noon - 11 p.m.

Checking Out Items

Library Card

To check out materials users must present their STLCOP ID. Faculty, staff, and students your STLCOP ID is your library card. 

Requesting Items

You can request books from our collection for items that are on the shelf or are currently checked out to another patron. 


Placing a Request

You will need to enter the following:

  • Your Name = as it appears on your STLCOP ID
  • Your College ID # plus your College Code
    • College ID = Your student ID number or faculty/staff ID #*
    • College code = COP

Example: 

  • Name = Mortarmer McPestle
  • College ID + College Code = 12345COP

* If you are a faculty or staff member and don't know your library ID #, please visit the Service Desk or email us at Library@stlcop.edu.

MOBIUS is a large consortium of academic libraries in Missouri and surrounding states, plus several large public libraries. MOBIUS libraries share books with other member libraries for free. So if a book you want is at the UMSL Library, they’ll send it to us free of charge for you to borrow!

There are several nearby MOBIUS libraries that you can visit and use your STLCOP ID to check out books.

How can I find books in MOBIUS?

  • Library homepage > Expand Your Search > MOBIUS 
  • In the Discovery Search, click on the Search MOBIUS button on the right-hand side of the results page
  • or from the Library catalog > click on the Search MOBIUS button at the top or the bottom of the page

How long will it take my book to arrive?
Usually two to three business days

How do I know my hold was placed?
After placing a hold, you should see a screen that says:

Your request for Book Name/ author name was successful.
Item requested from MOBIUS - St. Louis College of Pharmacy
You will be able to pick up this material at St Louis Coll of Pharmacy, Lib when it is ready.

You can also log into your Library Account anytime to track the status of your request or renew books currently checked out.

How do I know when my book is ready for pick-up?
You will receive an email from the Library saying your book has arrived and is ready for pick-up.

Where can I pick up my book and how long will you hold my book once it arrives at STLCOP?
Books are held at the Service Desk for 7 days. After 7 days, your hold will be canceled and books not picked up will be sent back to the owning library.

How long can I keep a book?
Checkout length =  4 weeks. You can renew a book 2x for an additional 4 weeks--unless another patron requests the book. I

Where do I return MOBIUS books?
At the Service Desk during regular operating hours.

Why can't I remove the green or yellow bookband on MOBIUS books?
The bands let us know where we need to send returned books and note if there is any damage to the book.

What if I no longer need my book?
Email Library@stlcop.edu

Interlibrary Loan is a free service for STLCOP faculty, staff, students, residents, and preceptors.

Interlibrary Loan allows users to borrow physical material from libraries outside of MOBIUS, as well as obtain copies of articles or chapters from titles that are not available in our library.

Renewing Items

Library Account

You can renew items and check the status of holds by logging into your library account through the Library's homepage.

To access your account you will need to enter: 

  • Your Name
    • Your name as it appears on your STLCOP ID
  • College ID #
    • Students: Use your student ID number
    • Staff and Faculty: If you do not know your number, email Library@stlcop.edu.
  • College code
    • All users: COP

Renewal Limits

Most library materials are allowed 2 renewals. However...

  • Reserve items can only be renewed at the Service Desk if there is no one waiting for the item.
  • Items requested by another user cannot be renewed.
  • Items billed for replacement cannot be renewed. 

Returned Item Still on Your Account?

Returning Items

All items must be returned to the Service Desk during normal operating hours

Any materials left at the Service Desk after closing remain the responsibility of the patron and will be considered late the following day upon check-in.
